2020 Tim Hortons Brier
Pamela Kendall
In the year 2019, as a curler from Garrison Golf and Curling Club in Kingston, Ontario, I was so excited to learn that Kingston , On was chosen for the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier.
Oh the excitement! I hail from Gander, Newfoundland, my sister Barbara Brown was always very involved with the provincial level of curling in Newfoundland, had attended the previous Tim Hortons Brier when Team Gushue had been the winner. Now they were coming to Kingston, Ontario where I currently live. And the “Gushue Girls” as they are called (supporters of the team), were coming also, and many I knew from my home town Gander, NL.
Oh what a reunion this would be! And so I offered to get involved by volunteering to sell 50/50 tickets to raise funds for our junior curlers. What a great experien
ce! I met more fans who travelled to Kingston from afar by just going up and down the bleachers yelling… “get your 50/50 tickets..support our junior curlers”.
I had so much fun. I met various curling teams from across Canada, past skips, celebrities, sports announcers, and it was a fun week of activity. Our town put on a great event and how lucky were we, as the week after , Covid -9 shut us down .
I look back now and think what a wonderful memory I have of my very first Brier. I hope I can be involved again and attend another Tim Hortons Brier, maybe 2022!
