A Very Special Moment

For his whole life my uncle had dreamed of going to the Brier. Juggling his full time job and spending so much time away from home. He had lots of good teams & good runs but never the dream year.

Finally in 1999 the unthinkable happened. Everything clicked at the right times and his team was the last one standing at the end of the Saskatchewan Playdowns. He had made it.

The whole family flew to Edmonton to watch him live. Most of them curlers themselves. It was surreal watching him walk out on the ice with all the other teams to the familiar sound of the bagpipes. Something we had all watched together so many times on television. I remember looking to my right and seeing my dad & other uncle crying. They and everyone else were so proud and happy for him. I will never forget it.
