This story is on the lighter side.
We ladies in Avonlea, Saskatchewan, (yes, that’s right—-we are the home of the curling Campbells!) loved our bonspiels. Our home spiels were legendary plus we would travel.
In 1986 five teams travelled down to Minot, North Dakota. We did really well, with three teams winning events. Now we were used to really nice bonspiel prizes.
The three event winning teams won crocheted bowls. We were dumbfounded, but we did not have to worry about clearing customs.
The best line was from one husband, (actually his daughter was there, too) who said “I don’t even believe you went curling! You spent all weekend partying and then thought you should bring something home and say you won! You stopped in someplace and bought 12 of the first things you saw.”
