Brother & sister first year curling adventure - Curling Day In Canada

These two siblings, Brock (15) and Danika (13), had a tough time finding something they loved for a sport outside of school, until we introduced them to curling last year. We told them to just give it a shot and see if they liked it, since my husband and I curl in a weekly league and really enjoy it. Occasionally, the kids would come watch us play and cheer us on.

Brock seemed to pick it up right away, but Danika struggled to find her balance on the ice, like many newbies do. But she didn’t give up and both kids were always ready for their 9 am practice on Saturdays, and never missed their Tuesday after school practice, and were always up for more if we could get some practice ice.

Christmas wish lists included new brooms and curling gloves! When asked if they wanted to join an inter-city curling group, they both jumped at the chance to curl more. Danika played on a Novice team, while Brock played on an intermediate team. Both teams won first place in their divisions! They also played in a few bonspiels last year and this year, and were always happy to help league teams find a spare when needed…if there was a chance to practice, they were game to play! At the end of their season last year, both kids got awards for “Most Improved Player”!

Because of all this, both kids have learned how to skip, and they both want to go to the 2026 BC Winter Games and start a high school curling team!

Winning this contest, and giving these two siblings the opportunity to watch professional curlers live, would be the most inspirational opportunity.

Thank you,
Brock and Danika
