My husband and I had tickets to the curling at Merlis Belscher a few years ago. We were just ready to head out the door to the rink when our son called, desperate for a last-minute babysitter for their young daughter – for the week!!! Sure – we would just take her with us to the curling rink. Curling – she said – what’s that??

Upon entering the complex, she quickly got caught up in the curling vibe. She loved the mascot, tried her hand at the shuffle curling board contest, cheered for the Saskatchewan teams and ran down with other kids to get autographs from the exiting curlers.

On the last day, Team Jacobs was curling and lost a close game. Our granddaughter quickly joined the que waiting to get autographs. EJ Harnden started to autograph her paper, then looked up at her and said, “Would you like my broom?” She couldn’t even speak, just nodded her head.

She still has that broom – no one is allowed to curl with it – display only!!

And – if you ask her “Curling – what’s that?” She will say, “Best sport in the world!!”
