Getting to know and love #YorktonsBeardedFan and his wife

January 23, 2022

While attending the 2015 Scotties in Moose Jaw, Sk and wearing our chicken hats outside the souvenir shop, my beloved (Grant) started chatting with the tallest and most colourful Super Fan in the arena- Mr Hans Madsen and his delightful wife Judy Barak. Grant and Hans were discussing other events and I couldn’t believe they already had their accommodations and airfare for the Women’s Worlds in Japan, but NO tickets. Such dedication and belief the tickets would happen made us realize the depth of their support of Women’s curling. We had such joy getting to know this couple at other events and with Hans encouraging us to keep wearing our headgear and as he put it “making people smile “. He took us under his wing and introduced us to teams, coaches, families of players, officials, media, TSN crew members, volunteers and many other beautiful fans. This motivated us to volunteer at curling events. We were so fortunate to become part of this amazing “curling family” and the big curling community. I will always be grateful for the times Hans would call me to join him in a photo op, being sure to introduce everyone. Hans and Judy had such a way of making everyone feel special. Although Grant and Hans are enjoying curling from the best seats above, I hope Judy and I can continue to attend many events together. 2015 Scotties were most memorable for much, but mostly for the start of this continued friendship. 💚🐓🥌
