I was brought up in eastern Ontario and only curled 1/2 season in high school to learn the basics. When I graduated from university I got a job with Saskatchewan (where everyone curls) Highways. They had an annual bonspiel called the xxxxpot (the trophy was an urinal). As a new engineer I was encouraged to join the team from our North Battleford office even though I had no experience curling. We got on the bus at 5 am with an ample supply of beer. and took off to Prince Albert. Luck would have it that our first game was against the Deputy Minister of Highways who took his curling seriously . It was a close game and they would have to measure for shot rock, On our last rock I slipped and fell and cleaned out the house. ” You bunch of drunks” was the instant response from the DM
The next summer I found myself working in the far north of Saskatchewan. He remembered my name!!!.
