Our children had just started their curling careers, they were ‘light rocks’ and still working to get the junior sized rocks to the far end of the sheet. The Women’s Worlds were held in Saint John, NB in March of 2014 and we took our young curlers to cheer on Team Canada, which happened that year to be our daughter’s favorite team, team Homan. We were shocked at how approachable the personalities associated with high level curling were. We met Russ Howard, Vic Rauter, team Sweden, and had pictures and autographs with team Canada. Our children were awed and inspired to say the least. Over the next 10 years our children committed to hard work, blood, sweat and tears to chase dreams of high level curling. Their dedication and a luckily timed, inspirational trip to a World Championship event, has led to a combined 7 provincial curling titles (one together as a doubles team with their dad as coach), 2 national U18 silver medals and a Curling Canada “For the Love of Curling” Scholarship . It is safe to say our children’s lives have been enriched and their development into the amazing young adults they are today is tied to their love of curling.
