In 2016 my friend was organizing a fundraiser for her renegades waterpolo team. She knows John Morris and Ben Hiebert really well and she asked them if they would be willing to give their time to it. They were being auctioned off to the highest bidding team, one silent auction and one live one. My team was determined to get John Morris on our team, so be put in a high bid in the silent and closed auction. I asked the organizers what would happen if we would win both auctions and she looked at me and said “you are trouble”. I told her we were determined to get one on our team. The live auction started without knowing yet what the other auction did, so we were bidding against a few and overbid every time. Apparently there was another team that had set their mind on one of them, but then my team mate out of the blue doubled the bid and the whole place went like ooohhhh!! We silenced them all. We won the live auction and then the revealed the closed auction and we won that one as well. We were not greedy and passed that one on to another team and we picked John Morris to play with us. We had the best day with him. He showed us so many things, but was also kind enough to help some other teams with some tips and tricks. It was such a fun event at just a local curling club and it showed the love these guys have for the sport, but also their willingness to help a friend raise money. When I think of it or see the memory come by on Facebook, it always puts a smile on my face.
