Small Town Curling - Curling Day In Canada

Stenen a small village in Saskatchewan we host a week bonspiel at the end of January. We hadn’t had a bonspiel for a couple years due to Covid and this year 2023 it happened again. This small community with volunteers make natural ice and provide the community with delicious food at the canteen and great entertainment. The two sheets of natural ice hosted 18 teams this year from the surroundings area. The ice was pretty good, a little swingy with some falls but a good skip after a couple ends was able to read the ice. Minus 29 outside and in the rink the temperature registered at minus 6. It was fun to see old acquaintances, visit and have some good competition. We curled 5 games during the week, losing the wrong game which put us in the C event. Then put in the boonies in the draw curled a lot more which puts the meaning in bonspieling! We enjoyed the atmosphere, food, friends and the curling. Great week in Stenen that hosts one bonspiel a year. It’s lots of work but worth it. Our team winning the C event. Lynda and Cal Statchuk, Lorri and Terry Dennis
