The Grand Slam Tradition - Curling Day In Canada

Over 23 years ago I tried curling by joining a league through work. I loved ice skating and thought sweeping and sliding would be lots of fun. I quickly learned (with packing tape on one sole) that it was much harder than I though. Nevertheless, I loved curling and went out to buy curling shoes. I was committed.

I moved and later had two daughters, so took a long break from curling. I was left to only enjoying it on T.V. My daughter often watched with me and I explained the game and mentioned I played. One day my eldest daughter said she wanted to curl. We went to a open house/try curling at our local club. She barely got on the ice and asked if I signed her up. Since then, our love for curling grew and she even got me curling again. We have watched many competitions on T.V. and always wondered what it would be like to attend a live game. Two years ago I bought two tickets to the Grand Slam woman’s final game. We didn’t know who would advance. The morning of, we found out that Team Einarson and Team Hasselborg we playing. Team Einarson being one of my daughter’s favourite teams, we were super excited to attend the game live. We had such an amazing time that we decided to make it an annual tradition. We hope to eventually attend a Briers or Scotties Tournament of Hearts one day.
