In 2019, a one-day women’s bonspiel at the East York Curling Club brought over 10 curling clubs together for an amazing day of fun. Participants raised over $40,000 for the Odette Cancer Center at Sunnybrook Hospital, and money went to the research at treatment of various women’s cancers.

In 2020, the organizing committee considered not having the bonspiel, as we all struggled through the pandemic. But in the summer of 2020, we decided to host a virtual event. This was very much outside of our comfort zone! But after many hours of prep and planning, we were able to welcome participants from 7 provinces, with over 30 curling clubs represented!!

We were able to have curling legend Colleen Jones from Halifax, Team Tracy Fleury, 2 Girls & A Game, and the great Kevin Martin from Alberta, all hosted by comedian and avid curling Susan Stewart! And together, by harnessing our positive energy, in the midst of a pandemic, we were able to raise over $21,000 for the Odette Cancer Centre!

This project was truly amazing to be involved in, because by going virtual, we were able to reach fans of curling from across the country!
