A team from a nearby curling club visited our club for a bonspiel. When the two teams met on the ice, they greeted each other with friendly handshakes. Our club’s vice, Tom, offered to flip a coin to determine who would get the hammer. The vice on the visiting team, Pierre, asked if Tom would like to try a different method they use at their club and Tom agreed. Pierre asked Tom to squat down in the hack so that Pierre could kick him and send him sliding down the ice. Whichever team kicked the vice the farthest would get the hammer. Pierre gave Tom a mighty kick, and Tom slid to the near hog line. Tom lay on the ice in pain for several minutes. When he finally got up, he limped over to Pierre and said OK, my turn to kick you. Pierre said its all right. You can have the hammer.
